The North Dakota Medal of Honor Memorial was dedicated on July 4th, 2007. The memorial commemorates recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military honor. The monument in Minot's Roosevelt Park features three 40-foot concrete pillars surrounded by 10-foot pillars representing medal recipients with North Dakota ties.
The North Dakota Medal of Honor Memorial was immersed in over six feet of water in the flood of 2011. The memorial was cleaned and pressure washed along with each individual rock being manually removed, cleaned and placed back into its original location. The monument was completely rewired and lights were replaced.
“Veterans Day is a day set aside to celebrate those men and women who serve and have served in the United States Military,” says Ron Merritt of the Minot Park District. “This memorial reminds us to remember the individual sacrifices not only on Veterans Day but every day. We are proud to once again be showcasing the North Dakota Medal of Honor Memorial in Roosevelt Park and the state of North Dakota”
If inclement weather occurs the event will be moved inside the Roosevelt Park Zoo Visitor Center.
