15 Jan Dakota Square Mall To Host Series of Events This Weekend
The Dakota Square Mall is hosting many events this weekend to keep you out of the frigid cold… a hot indoor sidewalk sale and story-time for the kiddos! This weekend’s events are guaranteed to keep you warm, unless you plan on doing the Polar Plunge!
Is it really too early to start thinking about Christmas shopping? We know, we just celebrated the holidays, but scarfs, gloves, hats and warm apparel never go out of style. If you can store gifts for the next 345 days then you should take advantage of the winter clearance sidewalk sale. Dakota Square Mall will kick off their indoor sidewalk sale tomorrow, January 16 and will run through January 18! Participating stores have deals and steals up to 70% off. Mall stores will be highlighting the hot values on winter clearance both in the common area and within their stores.
Barnes and Noble is hosting a children’s reading hour on Saturday at 11 AM. Staff from Barnes and Noble will be reading Pete the Cat – I Love My White Shoes. The story is great for small kiddos who are learning their colors! Stick around after story time for the fun activities to follow.
The third event which is worth checking out this weekend, is the Polar Plunge! The Polar Plunge is an event planned by the Law enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics! It is designed to raise money for and awareness of Special Olympics North Dakota programs. This is the 4th year the Polar Plunge is being conducted in the Minot area. The event is going to be held on Saturday, outside the Sleep Inn and Suites.
Now… Visit Minot thinks this event is going to be a tough one for the participants because the projected temperature for Saturday is in the negative double digits. Who is crazy enough to jump in cold water?! Well, there are people signed up and ready to do it.
The organization has already thought about the frigid temperatures and for those plungers who wish to jump into the cold water despite the projected cold temperatures they be granted warm up breaks. Health and safety of the participants, volunteers and spectators is their biggest concern.
For people watching the Polar Plunge event, there will be several awards handed out! Awards will be presented to the individual who raises the most money, for the best costume and for the best belly flop. One business will be recognized for their support in raising money for Special Olympics North Dakota. One Law Enforcement organization will also be recognized with the “Golden Plunger” award for raising the most money based on highest average per plunger.
People who are looking to plunge into the cold water can register at 11 AM and will conclude about 12:15 PM. Those plunging into the frigid water will start at 12:30 PM.
