02 Jul Community Spotlight: Megan Laudenschlager
Megan Laudenschlager is all about improving the lives of the people and the communities in her home state of North Dakota while working with the organization Strengthen ND. We were able to have a Q&A with Megan to learn about her and her work.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A: I grew up on a farm and ranch outside of a small town of Warwick. As the youngest of three girls, my parents learned very early on that I wasn’t fit for farm life and revoked any tractor or machinery driving privileges I had after multiple failed “chore assignments”. I attended college at Minot State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. I first entered the helping sector in 2010 when I began working for the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities, and I have continued working in the nonprofit field ever since!
Q: What is Strengthen ND and what does it do for Minot and North Dakota?
A: Strengthen ND is a dynamic, multi-faceted, and well-connected organization that works across North Dakota (ND) to elevate nonprofits and rural communities to support a high quality of life and resources for vulnerable populations through community development. By focusing on providing nonprofit and rural community capacity building opportunities, advancing regional issues, and facilitating community solutions, Strengthen ND has been able to support and accelerate community development through its day-to-day work. Strengthen ND has specifically been working throughout ND to aid nonprofits and rural communities with action planning, strategic planning, fundraising, project management, budgeting, and financial management, succession planning, and grant writing through workshops and one-on-one coaching. Since September 2015, Strengthen ND has generated over $5.8 million of project proposals from rural communities for funding consideration from the Rural Community Grant Fund.
Q: How did you get involved with Strengthen ND?
A: I got involved with Strengthen ND as I was lucky enough to be the founding executive director of the organization in 2015. 🙂
Q: What do you love about Minot?
A: I love Minot’s willingness to engage in community betterment and spirit of volunteerism. My favorite event is the Magic Day of Giving, where thousands of people come together for one day to give back to the wonderful people of the Magic City. This event has had an enormous impact on not only individuals but also organizations by providing over $1 million dollars in volunteer labor and donated materials since it began in 2015.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Minot?
A: One of my favorite things to do in Minot is to start my workday with a vanilla latte from Broadway Bean & Bagel!
Thanks to Megan and all she does for our communities!
