15 Aug Sun’s Out, Hot Dog Buns Out: Fun On A Bun Hot Dog Stand
When a lightbulb went off in entrepreneur Jon Lakoduk’s head in the summer of 2017, a unique new business flourished in Minot.
Fun On A Bun takes the convenience of hot dogs and elevates them with special toppings and fun combinations. The stand only serves Cloverdale products, produced in Mandan, North Dakota. Fresh squeezed lemonade is available to perfectly complement any ‘dog du jour’ on a hot summer day. They also serve Lay’s chips and soda or water to complete your meal.
The idea for each dog du jour starts with a walk around the grocery store and an open mind. If it can go on a hot dog, Jon Lakoduk will try it! Crowd favorites include the PB&J with bacon, Carebears on a Cloud (marshmallow fluff and Gummy Bears) and mashed potato and gravy. Other fun combos include the pizza dog, coleslaw and BBQ sauce, Mexican street corn and the Mitch which features banana peppers and Cuban mustard.
Getting to serve “awesome people every day” with “terrible jokes and good food” is one of Jon’s favorite parts of the hot dog stand. The ever-changing weather in North Dakota, however, can be a challenge. Lakoduk plans to upgrade to a new stand that will be enclosed, allowing the stand to stay open longer and more often. Fun On A Bun is open, weather permitting, covering lunch on weekdays and late nights on the weekends. Hours are 11:30 am to 2:00 pm but the location changes. Updates on locations and times can be found on their Facebook page. The stand can also be booked for special events or parties to add a fun flair.
