Outdoor Dining Spots Open up in Minot This Summer

The Magic City continues to display a vibrant and rich culinary history within the many restaurants, bars, pubs, coffee shops, bakeries and more that dot this list of can’t-miss eateries in Minot. Sixteen food options feature some form of outdoor dining to soak in the summer sun, and they should be on your list when visiting the region. From rooftop dining to patio-style and open-air concepts, plus some smaller-scale outdoor mentions, this list is certain to make the choice easier (or impossible) to pick some of the best outdoor food locations Minot has to offer!

ROOFTOP DINING

High Third

7 1st St SE, Minot, ND 58701

High Third is one of the newest establishments in the city of Minot, featuring expansive rooftop seating. Originally part of the red-light district in the 1960s near First Avenue Southwest, illegal alcohol production during prohibition was a staple of High Third and the surrounding neighborhood. It should only be fitting that specialty drinks are now (legally) served on the rooftop bar! The current establishment has been around since 2020 and works to reincarnate some of the vibrant life that was present throughout the history of the area. High Third’s Gastropub-style menu features a variety of foods for all tastes, specialty beverages and more!

Sports on Tap

220 S Broadway, Minot, ND 58701

Sports on Tap has been in Minot’s Downtown since 2004, but recently just added wraparound rooftop seating last year! The dining space on their roof opens during the summer to accommodate the views in the heart of the Magic City. Featuring Happy Hour Specials, Pizza on Fridays, a dance floor and more, their food and beverage selection is an unforgettable experience in the nightlife of Minot! Their food and quintessential sports-bar-inspired setup have highlighted Minot’s dining scene for almost two decades. Follow the latest Sports on Tap updates in the link provided.

PATIO-STYLE SEATING

Atypical Brewery & Barrelworks

510 Central Ave E, Minot, ND 58701

One of the newer establishments on this list, Atypical Brewery has been specializing in Barrel-Aged sour ales, craft beer and other specialty drinks since 2019, although they first provided locals with a taste of their brews a year earlier. Created by a few local guys, they finally opened their taste room in 2019 inside of the old Westland Gas Station on Central Avenue, which has been around since 1927. In their early days, the quaint brewery created a Parachute Porter with vanilla and the P-51 Pilsner, which were then strapped onto a P-51 Mustang and flown over Minot during the Dakota Territory Air Museum’s 75th anniversary of D-Day. You can find out more here!

OPEN-AIR PORCH-STYLE ATMOSPHERE

The Starving Rooster

30 1st St NE, Minot, ND 58703

As another dining experience rooted in the First Avenue history of Minot, The Starving Rooster sets up shop in the original Altman and Taylor Tractor Company building, which was finished in 1919. According to the owners, the name pays homage to the Altman Taylor Company, who “made a threshing machine that was of the highest quality and didn’t leave a speck of grain behind. As a result, the roosters had nothing to eat.” The repurposed building used as much of the original materials to create the tables and other designs that patrons have come to know and love, while paying respect to those who grew up living off the land around the Magic City. The menu features fantastic brunch options, beer, cocktails, pizza, pasta and Minot specials, with doors that open on one wall to provide open-air seating! They won’t let you go hungry, so stop in to see all The Starving Rooster has to offer!

Buffalo Wild Wings, or “B-dubs” as the kids call it, features a sports-bar experience you won’t forget anytime soon! With no shortage of sporting events (from local to regional and national coverage) as well as games, the entire family will enjoy the experience. Perfect for kids and large groups, Minot’s “B-dubs” features an open-air concept on the South side of the restaurant, where patrons can enjoy the summer months while dining in the fresh air. In addition to the staple of Buffalo Wild Wings (which, of course, are boneless and bone-in wings), the culinary options also include burgers, chicken, greens, great beverage options and fantastic customer service!
