Up Close Tiger Experience

Feed an Amur tiger using a food stick and feel the power of its presence just feet away. With bold stripes, piercing eyes, and a quiet intensity, this majestic predator offers a rare glimpse into the wild. Tigers are among the most revered animals on Earth, yet few ever experience them this close. Feed an Okapi

Meet Akili, a striking okapi with velvety dark fur, zebra-like stripes on his legs, and a long, flexible tongue. Native to the rainforests of the Congo, okapis are one of the most elusive animals in the world—and the only living relative of the giraffe. Despite their unique appearance, they’re rarely seen in the wild and are found in only 27 zoos across North America. Akili’s calm nature and rare beauty make him a must-see during your visit.

Interact with Penguins

Say hello to Hugh, one of the zoo’s most personable penguins. Hand-raised and full of character, Hugh loves interacting with guests and waddles right up to say hi. All of the penguins at Roosevelt Park Zoo are bachelors (male), and each has a unique personality. During the encounter, you’ll learn about their personality, nesting habits, conservation efforts, and what makes these cold-weather birds so special.

Step up to the platform and feed a giraffe face-to-face during one of the zoo’s most popular experiences. Offered daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for just $5, this interactive moment lets you hand a leafy snack to a gentle giant and feel its long tongue curl around the treat. It’s a fun, photo-worthy encounter that’s perfect for families and animal lovers alike.

Daily Animal Experiences

Guests can learn more about the zoo’s residents at daily keeper chats and training sessions. Watch penguins enjoy their lunch, see red pandas interact with keepers, and catch a glimpse of tiger training in action. Other highlights include enrichment sessions with lions, sloths, okapi, and birds of prey. Keep in mind, these daily experiences are animal and weather-dependent.
