All Are Welcome: What Does this Mean?
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Christ Lutheran Church 502 17th St NW, Minot, ND 58703
You are invited to an adult forum (including grades 7-12) to explore what we mean when we say “All Are Welcome.” Who is included in the “ALL?” Joel Friesz, Director of Youth Interventions at LSS, will speak to us about “Implicit Bias.” Implicit bias refers to the unconscious thoughts and feelings we have about various categories of people. For example, how we feel about age, race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability. We might think we feel one way, but often we have implicit or hidden biases. And it’s important to understand what our biases may be so that we can learn to overcome them. Harvard University offers a way to test our implicit biases through online assessments. If you would like to take one or more of the assessments, you can find them at www.bit.ly/biasimplicit. Your participation is COMPLETELY confidential. It’s not necessary to take one of the tests ahead of time, but you may find it helpful. You're invited to a meal at 5:15. Childcare will be available during the presentation.
