Minot State University Ann Nicole Nelson Hall 500 University Ave W, Minot, ND 58707
Come join us as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a festival of our country’s cultures. Enjoy Bernstein’s popular Candide Overture from his famous Broadway operetta. We will feature Virgil Thomson’s folk melodies from the 1936 short documentary film The Plow that Broke the Plains as well as Samuel Jones Symphony No. 3, subtitled Palo Duro Canyon, which depicts the unchanging Texas plains wind and utilizes Comanche Indian themes in his piece. We will perform the suite from Copland’s ballet, Appalachian Spring, and end with Maestro Amaya’s Suite of Latin Dances where he explores different folk rhythms from his native Venezuela.
