A Minot State Student’s Guide to Minot

I’m Skye, a marketing and entrepreneurship student at Minot State University. After moving from the mountains of Kalispell, MT, I quickly found that student life here is filled with great food, cozy coffee shops, and fun places to shop. Here’s my college student’s guide to making the most of their time in Minot.

As part of my Minot State Student’s Guide to Minot, I have to start with coffee. Whether you’re looking for coffee shops near Minot State to study, meet friends, or recharge between classes, Minot has plenty of local spots worth checking out.

With Room Coffee

This laid-back coffee shop near campus is perfect for studying or hanging out. In addition, they offer a student discount, which makes it even better. The natural light and local artwork create a cozy atmosphere. Don’t forget to use their in-house Polaroid camera and add your photo to the wall!

Skye’s Pick: Bacon breakfast sandwich on an English muffin and a caramel apple Redbull ® (perfect during fall).

Broadway Bean and Bagel Co.

Offers 12 flavors of baked-in-house bagels and 9 cream cheese options. They also serve bagel sandwiches, coffee, and energy drinks. Plus, they have a back room with plenty of space for studying or meeting friends.

Skye’s Pick: Parmesan bacon eggel and a blue raspberry Redbull ®.

Skye’s Guide to the Best Restaurants in Minot

Of course, no Minot State Student’s Guide to Minot would be complete without food recommendations. I consider myself a foodie, and I’m always searching for local restaurants, hidden gems, and must-try places to eat around town.

El Reparo Mexican Grill & Cantina

This authentic Mexican restaurant serves incredible food with fast service. Most of their menu is made in-house, including their birria, guacamole, chorizo, and corn tortillas. As a result, everything tastes fresh and flavorful.

Skye’s Pick: Pollo asada without jalapeños (they’re a little too spicy for me).

Variety of fresh baked goods and croissants from Minot's Daily Bread

Minot’s Daily Bread

If you’re looking for fresh pastries, coffee, or lunch, this is the place. The owner is originally from Albania and uses European-style baking techniques passed down from her grandmother. Because of that, everything feels homemade and special.

Skye’s Pick: London Fog (best in town) and a ham and cheese croissant.

Skye’s Favorite Shops in Minot

Shopping is one of my favorite ways to explore Minot. Whether I’m browsing the farmers market, checking out local boutiques, or thrifting around town, Minot has plenty of fun places for college students to shop and spend an afternoon.

Farmers Market

Minot has two wonderful farmers markets, the Minot Farmers Market and the North Prairie Farmers Market. They offer everything from homemade baked goods to handmade crafts. I especially love trying the fresh breads, cupcakes, cookies, and conchas. Not only is it a fun weekend activity, but it’s also a great way to support local vendors.

Thrift & Antique Shopping

Thrift shopping can be addicting—all it takes is finding that one item you’ve been searching for, and it’s only $3. After that, you’re hooked. Some of my favorite spots are Plato’s Closet, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, and Goodwill®. Whether you’re alone or hanging out with friends, thrifting is always a good time.

Student life in Minot has treated me well. With so many coffee shops, restaurants, farmers’ markets, local stores, and things to do, there’s never a dull moment. I hope this College Student’s Guide to Minot helps you explore the city and discover your own favorites!
