Prairie Sky Breads is a local independent baking operation. Getting their start in 2014, owner, Travis, and his wife started selling their baking creations at the local Minot Farmer’s Market. Now, they rent commercial space in Minot where Travis does his baking. Travis thanks his Grandmother for giving him his passion for baking, and he still likes baking her old recipes.

In 2009, Travis and his wife traveled to Liverpool, England. They volunteered in a soup kitchen and baked fresh bread for them. He was inspired by how the community came together at that soup kitchen. This is how he hopes Prairie Sky Breads will be, Travis enjoys the way food brings people together and he wants to be a part of that.
The community supported bakery doesn’t just help the local economy, but it helps other local businesses, such as the Minot Farmer’s Market and Hilltop Farms. Prairie Sky Breads receives ingredients from Hilltop Farms weekly that they use in their baking. All of their ingredients come from North Dakota farmers, which is important to Travis. He makes pan bread such a honey whole wheat and multi-grain, and hearth bread which have a crispy crust. One of Prairie Sky Breads most popular loaf is the jalapeno cheddar bread. Travis loves to eat and explore with flavor combinations. He tries to come up with original flavors and his own recipes.
Recently, Prairie Sky Breads had a Kickstarter campaign to help them get their own space to open their own bakery. Their Kickstarter campaign helped them tell their story to the Minot community. Their goal was $15,000 and the community showed tremendous support and raised almost $18,000 for Prairie Sky Breads. With the money raised, they were able to get their own space and will hopefully be able to open their bakery doors in early 2019.
Before their store opens, you can get Prairie Sky Breads at the Minot Farmer’s Market or on their website. Be sure to check out their Facebook as well for news and updates!
