Wendy Howe marks ten years at Visit Minot

January 23, 2013 (MINOT, ND) – January 23 marks ten years for Wendy Howe at Visit Minot (formerly known as the Minot Convention and Visitors Bureau). Howe joined Visit Minot in 2003 and was named executive director four years later, in February 2007. During her time with Visit Minot, Howe has been a driving force behind the organization’s revitalization, which includes its recent rebranding. She plays key roles both within the tourism industry through her service on numerous industry boards and, most importantly, in the community through her service in various community, economic development and service organizations.

Howe’s passionate, enthusiastic promotion of the Magic City has earned her both local and national recognition. She credits her enthusiasm to her love for the city and her work.

“I find the work so rewarding because I simply love Minot. I know it sounds corny, but it’s true,” says Howe.

A 1994 graduate of Mohall High School, Howe attended Minot State University. She joined Norwest Bank, which later became Wells Fargo, after college, working for six years in Minot and Davenport, Iowa. Howe returned to Minot in 2003 for her new job at the Minot Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“It took me leaving the city to appreciate all that Minot offers. So I jumped at the chance when the opportunity opened up for me to become part of the team promoting Minot,” adds Howe. “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Looking back on her ten years at Visit Minot, Howe says the two major challenges have been the 2011 flood and the Bakken oil boom. “The flood brought out the best in us and made our community closer. You can still feel it today. And the oil boom is transforming us into a vibrant, modern city.”

Howe credits both the “exceptional” Visit Minot staff and “extraordinary” community support for Visit Minot’s continued success.

“What we do is a team effort. My title may be executive director but I’m one part in a close-knit team. They’re a big reason why I’ve gotten out of bed in the morning for the past ten years. When you have a team this talented, this close and this supportive, it really doesn’t feel like work because it’s so enjoyable.”
