Gorgeous wall murals and street art can be found all throughout downtown Minot, created by local artists. There are over 25 different murals, which showcase the Magic City, add splashes of color, or create interest and intrigue. You’re sure to enjoy an art-filled walk, use this street art map to guide you to the many murals.

Many of these murals are in the alleyways behind the historic buildings downtown. Art is also abundant within the businesses along Main Street in Minot. Starting on the North end of the street near the old train depot is Urban Winery. Where you can join an in-house winemaking class in this urban art studio filled with retail art by the owner and vintner.

Nearby is a local art museum, the Taube Museum of Art which showcases a permanent collection and rotating exhibits by local and regional artists. This free-will donation art gallery is open Tues-Fri from 10:30 – 5:30pm and on Saturdays form 11-4pm. View the local art and make sure to pop into the gift shop for handmade goodies and art.

Take a break and get some fuel at Prairie Sky Breads, this locally owned bakery call themselves “a weird place, an artistic place, a spot for the community to gather… to get good coffee and baked goods.” Discover yummy baked goods like their cardamom knot pastry, pizzas, and gluten-friendly options. Shop the gift items crafted from local artists, and possibly catch live music depending on the day.

Back on Main Street pop into shops and galleries like Artspace Suite 1 Gallery  comprised of cooperative members who create and sell their art in the space. Purchase your own art supplies, or locally made jewelry from Artmain. Dig through records to find your favorite artist at Budget Music. Cross the street to the locally owned bookstore, Main Street Books, try their homemade kombucha and browse the shelves and be inspired. Grab a coffee, smoothie or boba tea at Black Iguana the cutest coffee shop inside Margie’s Art Glass Studio. Purchase locally made ceramics, glass creations, jewelry and MORE!

End the evening with a cold one at an art-lined bar or listening to live music at an Irish pub. You will find yourself in the most charming of settings at Atypical Brewery, the building itself is art. They feature art from local artists and rotate the gallery frequently, try their cult classic, the London Fog. Catch some live music from local musicians every night Mon – Sat at Ebeneezer’s Eatery & Irish Pub. If dive bars are your setting, find good vibes and great company at Blue Rider, the best dive bar in North Dakota, according to Yelp! This unique bar is housed in the last original wooden structure in downtown Minot, and is filled with intriguing art.

Northwest Arts Center

Discover more art throughout town. Northwest Art Center is located on campus at Minot State University. It houses a large collection of contemporary artworks and hosts a variety of exhibits, and events throughout the year. Look through the Walter Piehl Gallery and see the permanent art collection and Native American collections. This is free to the public and is open Tues – Fri from 10-5pm and Saturdays 1-5pm.

Thursdays Downtown Minot

There is usually an opportunity to catch a performing arts event like theatre, symphony, or orchestra in Minot. Enjoy spectacular events hosted by Minot Area Council of the Arts  during their summertime Arts in the City, including live music, arts & crafts, and local vendors.

Watch a play outdoors during Minot State University Summer Theatre at the MSU Amphitheater. Local performers take the stage with a vast array of plays and musicals performed throughout the summer months. You can also see a play during the fall, winter, and spring months at Mouse River Players , Minot’s oldest community theatre, celebrating over 50 seasons.

Catch a production by one of four orchestras in the state of North Dakota, Minot Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra brings a whirlwind of musical talent to the northwestern region of North Dakota with an incredible six annual performances and remarkable talent. Experience outstanding opera in the north central plains watching Western Plains Opera Company, which performs several musical events annually.
